The key permission is Accessibility access.
macOS requires explicit approval before an app can control the pointer or interact with other apps. Grant it only to the exact utility you intended to install.
Verify the app before granting control
Confirm the app name, download destination, and publisher information before opening System Settings. Accessibility access is powerful because it allows an approved app to control and interact with other apps; that is precisely why the setting should not be treated as a routine accept button.
Apple's Gatekeeper checks downloaded software and may warn about an unidentified developer or an app that cannot be verified. Follow the current Privacy & Security flow only when you deliberately obtained the app and understand the warning. Do not turn off system protections for all future downloads.
Enable and test Accessibility access
Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, select Accessibility, and enable the intended app. macOS may ask you to authenticate. If the app was already open, quit and reopen it so the permission change is picked up cleanly.
Run a finite, slow test in a harmless window. Confirm that the pointer action reaches the target and that the stop control works before using fixed coordinates or continuous repetition.
- Approve only the named app you downloaded.
- Keep the stop key available before starting.
- Pause before moving a window or changing Spaces.
- Do not assume permission means a game allows automation.
Remove access when you are finished
Return to the Accessibility list and disable the utility when you no longer need it. Removing the application itself does not replace reviewing the permission list, especially if you test several automation tools over time.
If an expected app is missing or control still fails, reopen the exact installed copy and check whether macOS is prompting again. Multiple copies of the same utility can make it easy to approve one binary while launching another.
